It was in April 2000 when the Collins group made its most daring purchase so far. Thorn Lighting was one of Herefords foremost employers with a manufacturing and production facility known the world over.
Their decision to pull out of Hereford was a devasting one - which led to the loss of over 400 jobs. But, as ever with the constant shifting of the landscape, it created an opportunity for someone with courage and vision. Everything was laid on the line and "Thorn Business Park" was purchased. The refurbishment of this 40 acre site was a very daunting prospect but new tenants soon came forward and now it is a thriving complex which employs over double the number once employed by Thorn.

The Business Park is situated in Rotherwas, the main employment area for Herefordshire. The site is easily accessible and minutes away from the A465 & A49. The Business Park has one gated entrance and provides excellent security which includes 24 hour CCTV and patrol visits each night. Thorn provides over 300,000 sq ft of warehousing and manufacturing space.

When Whitestone Tile works was purchased in 1995 it had been empty for 4 years and was utterly run down. The demolition and refurbishment which followed created opportunities for companies looking for business premises on the north east of the city.
The purchase of more land followed, a new headquarters was built for I & JL Brown, furniture makers, and a new road was built to improve the very narrow access for Bartestree traffic to join the Hereford Worcester main road whilst creating a new entrance to the Business Park. More businesses joined Whitestone, more land was purchased, more buildings were created and it is the headquarters of the very progressive Allpay Limited.

The Business Park is situated within a 5 minute drive from the city centre and just off the A4103. Whitestone Business Park provides nearly 200,000 sq ft of business space on an area of 15 acres. A significant proportion of the site has been sold to individual companies who, with the help of Collins Design & Build, have created their new headquarters as shown on the Aerial photograph.
The first was I & JL Brown who have a significant furniture and sales business with other facilities in America and China.
More businesses came including Paragon Labels, Greendale Carpets, Advantage Business Supplies, Dyecor, Stock 2U and Anubis, creating an interesting mix of tenants.
One of the most notable additions to the site was the much acclained Allpay Limited which now have created their two units which form their Headquarters of their innovative Financial Business.
Whitestone Business Park has been described as setting a new standard for Herefordshire.
Westwood Industrial Estate (location map)
Our head office is situated on Westwood Industrial Estate, from whence it all started. The sale of the Trailer manufacturing and cessation of the motorsport activities created opportunities for multiple occupancy and the possibilities for other local expanding businesses.
New tenants have developed their roots in Pontrilas generating jobs in a Rural Area. There is still an agricultural machinery business from the growing of beansprouts to timber framed house building.
